His studio is housed in an inconspicuous apartment building in Hamburg, which more than 60,000 cars drive past every day. We didn’t drive past, we visited the artist Davood Roostaei, who has been working in Hamburg for years. That is not particularly exciting. What is astonishing, however, is the success of the painter, who is only 34 years old, studied all art forms in Tehran and Cologne, and is now causing quite a stir with a style of art he developed and which is protected worldwide.
Davood Roostaei created the new art term “cryptorealism”. Mysterious, partly shrill, partly factual oil and acrylic paintings. Nevertheless, these works are based on concrete representational meanings and statements with which the painter deals with problems of the time and wants to give a humane message to all fellow human beings.
